N.F.L. Roundup: Falcons Beat Peyton Manning and Denver Broncos

Matt Ryan threw his 100th career touchdown pass, Roddy White had 102 yards receiving and the Falcons defeated the Denver Broncos and the error-prone quarterback Peyton Manning, 27-21, in Atlanta on Monday night.

The Falcons (2-0) took advantage of three interceptions by Manning in the first quarter and built a 20-0 lead. Manning brought the Broncos (1-1) back with two fourth-quarter scoring drives, but it wasn't enough to make up for his awful start.

Ryan was much more efficient, completing 24 of 36 for 219 yards. He hooked up with Tony Gonzalez for a 1-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, then went to White on a 4-yard score in the third period.

VILMA IMPLICATED The N.F.L. presented linebacker Jonathan Vilma and his lawyer with a sworn statement from the former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams saying Vilma placed a $10,000 bounty on Brett Favre.

Vilma met with Commissioner Roger Goodell in New York about his suspension, which has been temporarily lifted. Vilma's lawyer, Peter Ginsberg, said they were given an affidavit at the meeting.

Vilma posted on Twitter on Monday night that Williams was "bullied to sign the affidavit," saying Williams signed it Friday.

TWO REDSKINS OUT FOR SEASON The early glow from Robert Griffin III's fast start faded quickly for the Washington Redskins when the defensive starters Brian Orakpo and Adam Carriker were declared out for the season.

Orakpo, a two-time Pro Bowl linebacker, tore the pectoral muscle near his left shoulder, and Carriker, a defensive end, tore the quad tendon in his right knee in the first quarter of Sunday's 31-28 loss to the St. Louis Rams.

RAMS TACKLE OUT St. Louis offensive tackle Rodger Saffold will be out at least a month with a right knee injury.

Coach Jeff Fisher said that Saffold had a third-degree medial collateral ligament sprain and other damage to the knee but that it was not season-ending.

Fisher also did his best to dispel rumors that running back Steven Jackson had been benched for spiking the ball in protest after he was ruled short of the goal line on a third-down carry from the 1, saying he was held out with a minor groin injury but could have returned if the rookie Daryl Richardson faltered.

BROWNS CONCUSSION Cleveland tight end Alex Smith was briefly hospitalized with a concussion after Sunday's loss in Cincinnati.

The Browns said Smith was listed as day to day.
